Money-Saving Holiday Tips

Now that the summer holidays are fast approaching, this is the time of the year when we really let our hair down and fly out to a hot and sunny destination. Whilst it is a great time to unwind and relax, you can make it even more enjoyable if you resist overspending your hard-earned cash or wasting money for nothing. World of Deals UK has provided us with five tips on how to save money when you are looking to go on a holiday:

  • Book your holiday in advance

If you have an idea of when and where you would like to go for your next holiday, it is advisable to book your escape (and your days off from work) as early as possible. You can get the best deals by planning ahead and although it is tempting to wait to get one of those last minute deals, you may risk wasting your days off for nothing or ending up paying more than it would normally cost.

  • Compare currency conversion rates

If you are only spending a couple of hundred quid, you may not see that much of a saving. But if you have a bit more spending money, then it is worth checking out the various conversion rates before you fly off to your destination. This could be at the Post Office, banks and building societies, shops like M&S, and travel agents.

  • Book your holiday during the off-peak periods

Travel agencies, airlines and hotels are fully aware of the peak times when everybody goes on holiday i.e. Christmas and Easter. If you are able to plan your holidays before or after the public holidays, you can save a significant amount.

  • Avoid buying toiletries and snacks at the airports

Avoid the temptation of buying toiletries such as sun cream, tissues or snacks when you are strolling around the airport and waiting for the departure gate to open. It may not sound like a lot, but the pounds that you spend here and there can quickly add up. Make sure you buy all of your necessary toiletries at high street stores and stick them in your checked-in luggage. Otherwise, you can wait until you buy them at a local shop when you arrive at your destination, where it may be cheaper than in the UK high street depending on the destination.

  • Keep your phone off

Unless you need to use it for emergencies, bringing your phone with you can be very costly. If you want to make a call back to the UK, buy a phone card and use the public telephone where it would be much cheaper. Hotels will also charge a high rate if you use the room phone to call home so avoid making calls from there too. And don’t forget that even if somebody calls you from the UK, you will still be charged.

Following these simple steps will help you save money particularly when you add it up all together. You can then save up the money for another cause or maybe you can use it as extra spending money which will enable you to enjoy the holiday even more and with less stress.
